ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Since its inception in 1953, the Stephen Bufton Memorial Education Fund (SBMEF) has been a major force
in helping women get greater access to higher education. Today the educational fund of the American Business
Women’s Association (ABWA) is considered a top-tier national grant and scholarship program moving women
forward in school and business. In its lifetime, the ABWA’s Board of Trustees has awarded more than $17
Million in scholarships to over 16,000 women in the United States. Much of the scholarship funding has come
from the generous contributions of the ABWA’s members such as soccerloco. With new scholarships being
awarded from the ABWA practically every week, the spirit of giving is alive and well.
The Mission of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) is to provide educational
opportunities for women to succeed in their post-secondary educational goals as well as their continued career
advancement. As a result, the ABWA is helping to advance female role models, mentors and leaders in their
communities across the nation.
