History of the Real Madrid Jersey

While recognized worldwide for their all white home kit, Real Madrid's crest and jersey design have undergone several transformations throughout the club's history. The first Real Madrid home jersey actually featured a blue oblique stripe with matching dark blue socks. While the stripe no longer exists in the kit today, it can be found integrated into the current club crest. Only one year in the club's history have the home shorts been a color other than white. In 1925, Real Madrid wore black shorts at home after leaders at the club noticed well respected English club Corinthian F.C. wearing a similar strip while traveling through England. The change lasted just one season while the color change was thought to be bad luck after Madrid lost to Barcelona 1-5 in a cup game and white shorts have accompanied the Real Madrid jersey ever since.

The traditional Real Madrid away jersey and kit is either all black or dark purple and usually keeps a similar design with alternating accent colors. The first ever jersey sponsor of Real Madrid was Zanussi in 1982.
