History of Liverpool Jerseys
Before the famous all red home strip of Liverpool FC ever came to be, the club wore blue jerseys which resembled those of neighbors Everton. In 1924 the club adopted the city's color of red, but continued to wear white shorts until the 1964 season when Liverpool donned an all red for the first time against Anderlecht. The famous liver bird was official adopted as part of the club's badge in 1901, but wasn't actually incorporated into the uniform until 1955. Liverpool away jerseys change often, but usually include yellow, black or grey. Each season also brings a third kit which is used for European away matches and times when their other two jerseys match too closely to the opposition.
Currently produced by adidas, the Liverpool jerseys and other uniform pieces were made by Umbro up until 1985 and by Reebok from 1996 to 2006. After being purchased by American owned Fenway Sports Group in 2011, Liverpool announced a record-breaking six year kit deal with affiliated Warrior Sports for £25 million. As one of the world's most popular clubs, title sponsorship on the Liverpool soccer jersey means big money. Now held by Standard Chartered Bank, other companies to have graced the front of the Liverpool jersey include Crown paints, Candy and Carlsberg.
