Today Nike has released the men and women’s USA Soccer home kits. The theme presented by Nike for the home kits is branded as “Keeping it Simple” and has combined both classic and modern styles. The USA soccer jerseys are celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). Established in April of 1913, the USSF has greatly influenced the progression of American soccer at both the youth and professional levels.
Inspired by the US kits of 1916, this USA jersey features a Navy v-neck collar and matching sleeve trim. The ventilated hems at the hips are equipped with the stars and stripes of the American flag on either side. These features correspond with the American crest on the left chest, which is symbolic of the first American flag, and represents the first 13 colonies established by America. The noticeable difference between the men and women’s crest is the two stars located above the crest on the women’s jersey. This acknowledges the two World Cup triumphs by the American women. Hopefully next year the men can get a star of their own.
The motivation behind these kits comes from connecting American soccer’s past towards the future. Nike wanted to take a look back at the vital history of American soccer and unite it with future progress, as Team USA looks to achieve the very difficult challenge of becoming World Cup Champions next year in Brazil.
Still made with the cutting edge technology from Nike, this jersey is naturally lighter and effectively wipes away sweat faster than ever before. Nike sticks to its eco-friendly image while making each jersey with 100% recycled polyester and Dri-Fit fabric. The jersey bears a 20% stronger knit structure, and the authentic jersey features fine laser cut holes that regulate the bodies’ temperature.
The men’s team will debut the jersey against Costa Rica in an upcoming World Cup qualifier on March 22nd.
Luckily for all you USA supporters, the brand new centennial clothing line which also features USA jackets, shorts, scarves and hats is available at soccerloco.
