Landon Donovan’s stock is definitely on the rise. The top American has made a huge splash in his short stint in the English Premier League. Donovan has been on loan to EPL side Everton (from LA Galaxy of the MLS) for a few months now, and the story of this European move could not be any more different than his original European stay with Bayern Munich.
Resurgent Everton has been on a tear since Donovan joined the team, reeling off victories against EPL powerhouses and current league leaders, Chelsea and Manchester United. Donovan’s impressive creative abilities and scoring touch have turned heads around England and garnered attention from several top clubs.
With his loan spell technically coming to an end following Everton’s 5-1 victory of Hull City on Sunday (in which Donovan played tremendously, scoring a goal and tallying an assist after coming on as a sub), there is speculation his loan spell could be extended and even possibly turned into a permanent move. Donovan’s comments following Sundays game indicated that his agent was already in talks with Galaxy executives to extend his stay in Liverpool.
Even more shocking news comes from the The People in London who is reporting that Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is interested in signing Landon permanently to replace winger Joe Cole who is reportedly on his way to Manchester United on a free transfer. Chelsea are believed to be willing to pay in the range of $15 million for the American star.
