For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, Brazilian football fans were given the opportunity to name the official ball for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Adidas, the World Cup Official Match ball supplier, came up with three possible options for the fans to choose; Brazuca, Bossa Nova, and Carnavalesca. Winning by a land slide, Bruzuca, an informal term used by Brazillians to describe national pride in the Brazillian way of life took home 70 percent of the total votes.
Adidas has also been hard at work with official match ball for the 2012/2013 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and 2012 UEFA Super Cup Competition. The ball has been designed not only to look great, but also to perform. Adidas has added an outer coating texture designed to provide optimal grip at the point of impact. Aesthetically, the ball features bold colors (white/ lab lime/ dark violet) and includes thermal bonded stars which represent the UEFA Champions League logo. Also, the coordinates of Nyon, Switzerland, and Herzongenaurach, Germany, the homes of UEFA and Adidas were added.
In addition to the balls, adidas has put emphasis on their cleats. All three adidas boot silos (Predator, adiPure, and f50) are now miCoach enabled, allowing players to track and analyze statistical data from their match and share on Facebook. The new technology is being endorsed by some notable names including Real Madrid CF’s manager Jose Mourinho, FC Barcelona’s Leo Messi and Xavi, and FC Bayern Munich’s Bastain Schweinsteiger.
