Top of the Table Clash – 2 of the Premier League's Best Face Off

Chelsea vs. Manchester United

With the massive match between Chelsea and Manchester United looming just days away, Chelsea play maker Deco has fired some verbal warning shots the way of the Reds.

The Portuguese midfielder was quoted as saying, “The big difference between us and United

Chelsea Super Striker Didier Drogba

is in attack. Drogba is enjoying a spectacular moment in his career and is superior to the front-line of United. For me, Didi wil be the key – the star of the match for sure.”

While the loss of World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and workhorse Carlos Tevez to cross town rivals Manchster City has definitely forced manager Sir Alex Ferguson to make some changes, the Red Devils are by no means push overs, still featuring elite attackers such as Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov. While United have indeed struggled to find the net as often as previous years (current goal difference of 12, compared to Chelsea’s 20 and Arsenal’s 19), they still remain second in the table just 2 points adrift of Chelsea.

The gap between the two sides only raises the stakes in the clash of Blue and Red, with a Chelsea win meaning a sizable gap heading into winter or a Manchester win, boosting the Red Devils back into first place. United will still have sour memories of their recent encounter with top-four rival Liverpool as they hobble into Stamford Bridge. Rather than in attack, as Deco pointed out, United will have many questions to be answered on the opposite end. Defenders Rio Ferdinand (calf) and Gary Neville (suspension) will not be part of the action, with big questions still surrounding defensive enforcer Nemanja Vidic’s availability.

Deco’s confident comments may have some merit as Chelsea has looked very strong in domestic competition. The Blues have crushed their last two opponents in the Premier League a combined 9-0 on their way to taking over top spot in the table. Ivorian striker Didier Drogba has been in great form, finding the next 8 times already in just 11 games and manager Carlo Ancelotti’s squad seems to be playing as a confident and title hungry outfit.

The clash of Soccer titans will not dissapoint, so don’t miss out on the action. The match can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel Sunday (11/8) morning at 8 am.
