Premier League Weekend Review

This weekend’s Premier League action was filled with action and excitement, as usual.  Here are the scores, as well as some of the highlights (and lowlights) of this weekend’s games.

Scores:

Liverpool 1-1 Manchester United

Manchester City 4-1 Aston Villa

Norwich City 3-1 Swansea City

Queens Park Rangers 1-1 Blackburn

Wigan 1-3 Bolton

Stoke City 2-0 Fulham

Chelsea 3-1 Everton

West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Wolverhampton

Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland

Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

Game of the Week:  Newcastle-Tottenham.  Once it got going, this game was a back-and-forth contest that could have been won by either team.  In the end, a late Shola Ameobi goal earned a point for Newcastle at home.

Goal of the Week:  Mario Balotelli, Manchester City.  His  acrobatic bicycle kick got City going in their game against Aston Villa.  See it HERE.  (Honorable mention to the battle of the free-kicks…both Sebastian Larsson and Robin Van Persie had great free-kick goals in the Sunderland-Arsenal game).

Save of the Week:  David de Gea, Manchester United.  The young Spaniard’s savefrom Jordan Henderson’s dipping volley saved the game for the Red Devils.

Surprise of the Week:  Liverpool-Manchester United; surprising because of what a normal game it was.   The headline game of the weekend turned out to be pretty dull until Liverpool scored with about 20 minutes left.  It opened up a bit after that, but all in all the game didn’t live up to the hype and the spectacle we’re accustomed to when these two meet.

Top Scoring Shoe:  The Adidas AdiPower Predator takes the title this week, just edging out Nike’s CTR 360 Maestri.

Discussion Point:  Manchester City’s victory over Aston Villa vaulted them into first place in the Premier League.  How will they handle the pressure of the top?
