When the Premier League finished on a sweet note for Manchester City, we were hoping the team would reveal a sweet look for the coming season. Needless to say we got our wish. The new Man City Home and Away Jerseys for the 2012-2013 season are now on pre-order from soccerloco.com, shipping mid to late July.
City captain and Belgium native Vincent Kompany launched the Home & Away kits with help from English rock legend Noel Gallagher. Umbro and City asked fans for creative ways to launch the new kits for 2012/13 and after many videos submitted with the theme of show your city, Kompany introduced Gallagher at an 80,000 packed venue in his native Belgium.
The Manchester City Home Jersey is similar to last year’s design with the sky-blue foreground, but now Umbro has replaced the white v-neck collar with a black, fold-over, no-button collar. This typical English styling is accented by black trim inspired by the 1969 FA Cup and 1970 League Cup winning kits.
The dark accents are featured in the embroidered Umbro diamond and team crest, now in grey, black and white. The same sponsor is kept for another season, printed in the same dark color ink featured throughout the rest of the design. A subtle, classy feature on this home kit is the black crew collar underneath the slitted fold-over collar for added class.
The away kit is a completely redesigned look for the Premier League defending champions. Now a maroon or plum jersey features gold accents throughout. In sharp contrast to previous years’ red and black stripes, this new Manchester City Away Jersey for 2012/13 is a solid color foreground, with debossed knit stripes.
The collar is a flat, subtly striped V-neck in typical English style similar to last year’s home jersey. The embroidered Umbro diamond is in gold, with the adorned team crest in full-color to match. The sponsor is kept in the same gold ink as the accents featured throughout the jersey. The style takes inspiration from the 1934 and 1956 FA Cup winning squads that were also tailored by Umbro.
Staying true to their team motto, embellished into their crest Superbia in Proelia, meaning Pride in Battle, we’re sure these City players like Kompany, Balotelli (and perhaps Robin Van Persie) will not only take the field proudly this August, they may be the best dressed defending champs we have known.
Noel Gallagher said: “The new home kit is pure class. It might be the best one we’ve had in a decade. As modern and radical as it is though, it’s nice to see Umbro keeping our heritage alive in the new away kit. The best dressed defending champions of all time? No doubt.”
