Los Angeles Galaxy and U.S. Men’s National Team forward Landon Donovan has signed a new four-year contract which will keep him playing in the MLS, while making him the second highest paid player in the league.
The new contract was tailored similar to the David Beckham setup, where the player is allowed to pursue international playing opportunities by way of short-term loan agreement. Donovan will now complete a loan deal which will see him join English Premier League club Everton for the next few months.
Speaking on his chance to stay fit while playing with Everton, “I’m fortunate,” he said. “Most soccer players don’t get this opportunity to have the best of both worlds. It’s incredible.”
